Surveys closing in 5 days! Plus, PHOTOS from the factory.
over 3 years ago – Tue, Nov 10, 2020 at 11:36:42 PM

Dear vegetation aficionados,

We're getting closer to being able to bring all of you to Plantopia! But to do so, we still need you to fill in your surveys. The vast majority of you have done so (and sincere thanks from all of us for being so prompt!) , but there are still over 300 of you that have not, and for that reason we have extended the BackerKit surveys till this Sunday 15th November, which is when we will lock the orders and charge the cards. So until then, you can still make changes to your orders and/or addresses. Please note that we will be unable to process your order until you complete your survey, and it will be very difficult for us to do so once the deadline has past, since all of the orders are being processed at the same time. It will cost us additional money to get you your games if you do not fill in your surveys by the stipulated date, and we may have to transfer that cost to you.

On to lighter news - we have been making progress in a number of areas as mentioned above, including the commencement of printing. Here are some photos from the factory:

We're on track to have the thousands of sets printed by the end of November, which is when the games will start to ship. And that's when all of us will be able to travel to Plantopia!

We are also putting the final touches on our first Print and Play game which we can't stop playing, Arachnoir. You can find more information here:

Arachnoir, an intense spatial game about shaping webs and sticking insects.

https://www.origame.co/arachnoir

Arachnoir was inspired by an old iPhone/iPad game called Spider: The Secret of Bryce Manor. We mention that because Plantopia is also a game that is purely analog but has roots in digital games. For those of you who have added this fiendishly puzzly game to your order, you will receive an email on December 1st with the link to the pdf to download. All you need are three dice, pen and paper and a black and white printer, and you are ready to roll. That should tide you over until Plantopia arrives in the mail!

Thanks again for being on this journey with us, we can see the silhouette of Plantopia in the distance!

Origame is @ Spiel Digital. Come by our booth! PLUS: Wok and Roll info and some housekeeping.
over 3 years ago – Thu, Oct 22, 2020 at 11:43:43 PM

Dear all horticultural fanatics,

While we're busy preparing games for you and you're impatiently waiting for them, we've got a pretty good option for you to consider. Why not come by the largest board game convention in the world, that just happens to be online this year, and one that is taking place right this moment?

At the Origame booth, which you can find here, you can learn more about our games (give us some thumbs up while you're in) but more importantly sign up with your friends to play Plantopia as well as Wok and Roll with our friendly Origame hosts! We have lots of sessions that you can sign up for. And once you've learnt how to play, you can play again and again on Tabletopia, and you'll be experts by the time the physical games come. Note that the version of Plantopia on Tabletopia now includes ALL the country promo cards that all of you unlocked, as well as the special powers!

We've planned two special events for Spiel, and especially for all of you -

First, a livestream of us, the Plantopia Team, doing a live playthrough together of Plantopia. You can see the event page here. This will be on the 25th of October at 10pm (GMT+8).

Second, another livestream of us, the Plantopia Team, doing a live Q&A and answering anything you care to ask. The event page is here. This will be on the 26th of October at 10pm (GMT+8).

Both events will be held LIVE on the Origame Discord server.

Speaking of Wok and Roll, Cardboard Stacker has done another excellent job explaining the game in not just one but TWO videos, since you will technically get two games in one box, the SIMPLE MENU and the EXPERT MENU. There are videos for both menus, and after you watch the videos, you can sign up to play at our booth - what could be better?

Even if you've already completed your survey, you can still edit your order to add on Wok and Roll and be one of the very first to play it in person! Wok and Roll will go straight to retail, so this will be your only chance to get a game that COMES WITH A PLASTIC WOK (and to save on shipping). But regardless, we suggest that you try it out this weekend if you can, it's fast and fun!

Some housekeeping:

There are a few of you whose emails were not able to receive the BackerKit email (either through bounce-back or other reasons). If you have not received your survey, please email us at [email protected] and we will manually give you your link.

Over 80% of you have already filled in your surveys, so a huge thank you from us for being so prompt! For those who haven't, you still have about 2 weeks to go.

Please note that all of you will automatically already receive one Garden City Seed Pack with every copy of Plantopia that you purchase. Therefore, if you add on extra Seed Packs in BackerKit, these are additional copies. We just want to make sure that folks aren't adding on seed packs because they think they aren't already getting a copy. That being said, if you love the Garden City cards (and we do), there's actually no harm adding two or even three packs to the base set, it is still very playable.

See you Saturday and Sunday night!

BackerKits are COMING!
over 3 years ago – Fri, Oct 16, 2020 at 11:16:52 PM

Greetings all patient plant-preferrers,

It's been a while, we hope that all of you have been keeping well (by the way, potatoes keep WAY better when you keep them away from onions). Our sincere apologies for the delay in BackerKit surveys, as it is our first time using BackerKit and we encountered a number of unforeseen delays. You'll be very glad to know however that this is not affecting our planned schedule, we've been busy as beets working to make sure everything is on track.

You’ll receive or should have received an email from us with a special link to your BackerKit survey (check all folders or search if necessary). You don’t need to create a BackerKit account to fill out your survey. When you receive the email with the survey, click the survey link to respond. Answer the questions about your reward preferences, provide shipping information, and purchase add-on items if you like (and we hope we have stuff you like! Wok and Roll is at an awesome discount, for example). All add-ons will come together with your copy of Plantopia.

It’s important to respond to your survey before NOVEMBER 7 since we need this information to fulfill your rewards. If you plan to purchase any add-ons, make sure that you have the correct card information on file by NOVEMBER 8. If any issues arise with your payment you’ll receive an email letting you know to correct your payment information.

After you respond to your survey, you can go back later and change your responses at any time before the dates stated above, as we will then close the surveys and get our final counts.

If you need to review your information or pledge status, you can return to your survey by clicking the link in your survey email or requesting your survey link under "Lost your survey?" on our BackerKit project page at https://plantopia-the-card-game.backerkit.com/. If you used your Facebook credentials to log in to your Kickstarter account, the BackerKit survey is sent to the email address you use for your Facebook account. If you have another email address that you prefer to use, please contact support at https://plantopia-the-card-game.backerkit.com/faq.

We understand that this process may be unfamiliar to some of you, so please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries. You can email us at [email protected], or message us through Kickstarter. We will (and have always been) here!

Now, back to the green grind for us.

Timelines and other information (especially for first time KS backers!)
over 3 years ago – Wed, Sep 23, 2020 at 09:52:06 PM

Dear horticultural fans,

As we have a large number of first time Kickstarter backers (575 of you!), we wanted to make sure that none of you are in the dark as to how the fulfilment process will work.

Currently, Kickstarter should be charging your payment method and compiling all of the funds. We will receive these funds in about 2-3 weeks after Kickstarter consolidates them, which will take a week. When we are transferred the consolidated amount, we will send out BackerKit surveys to everyone who is a backer. Even if, by any reason, you were unable to pay through Kickstarter, you will still have the chance to access BackerKit as long as you are a backer. Don't worry, you will not have to do anything special or sign up for anything, all of this information will be in your email, and we will also send reminders through updates. We have noted that some of you may have gotten double charges - this is on Kickstarter's end but we will be able to rectify it once we see how much you paid, and if necessary we will manually refund you.

If you are or know a LATE BACKER, we are opening up a limited time-frame for late backers to join in the Plantopia party through pre-order on the Origame website. There will be details on the website starting Monday 28th September, and late backers will be able to place orders for a window of 2 weeks, till Monday 12th October. Late backers will still get the KS exclusives (since technically they are backers) but they will not get the discounts that were enjoyed by the other 4976 in-time backers. This will be the last time that the entire Garden City Seed Pack (28 cards and 2 sticker sheets!) will be available. (We are considering giving individual country promo cards to selected partner stores in the corresponding countries. However, this means that you would still need to travel to 12 countries and buy 12 sets and still not have the whole pack!)

When we send out the BackerKit survey, you will have till the end of October to fill in your address and necessary details for shipping. BackerKit will also allow you to customize your order and add extra games to your liking. The amount that you paid through Kickstarter will appear as credits in BackerKit, so you just simply select the reward that you backed (which should cost the same as your credits) and you won't have to pay extra if you are not adding anything to your pledge.

If you do not or are unable to fill in your BackerKit survey by the end of October, do not fear - you will still be in the system but you may have to pay additional shipping depending on where you are, since we will be doing bulk shipping out starting in November. The shipping process will take about a month or so, so ideally you should be getting your games around early December barring unforeseen delays.

If you have any questions, please feel free to message us here at Origame at any time (click on the creator icon). You can also raise your question in the comments section if you think that your question is relevant for everyone.

In the meantime, please sharpen up on your gardening and board game skills - you'll need them when you play Plantopia!

EXPEDITION SUCCESSFUL - see all 4976 of you in Plantopia!
over 3 years ago – Tue, Sep 22, 2020 at 12:34:20 AM

Dear nature-lovers of Plantopia:

We did it! What an insane 24 hours. We not only ended our journey by being the NUMBER ONE project on Kickstarter (was that a POTted plant in our way for a while?), but we also managed to explore the whole of Plantopia, even though there were some surprises and mishaps along the way. Who knew that there were a couple more plants hiding behind the vines, including the elusive Sakura SkyTree?

Together, we rode Rocket Salad all the way through Plantopia, smashing through ALL TWENTY stretch goals, the fruits of which we will all enjoy together soon. Expedition Success indeed! Let's take some time to appreciate the last of these fantastic plants while we're here.

The Mango StickTree Rice is a very well-loved plant. Not only does it make friends by offering up its sweet sticky mango fruit, making it a huge hit at parties, but it's also really popular with board game designers since it always has a glue stick handy. A heartfelt Kop Koon Kap to all of our Thai brothers and sisters, you are always in our hearts even though we can't be there to play games in person. We'll be seeing you soon!

Grazie to all of our Italian fans who made their support known at the last moment. We spotted you overtake Thailand as the 10th ranked country, and we appreciate your efforts just like we savour a tasty crop of Leafing Flower of Funghi Pizza. Similar to Mango StickTree Rice, this beloved plant is deliciously popular, especially at toga parties.

Conversely, the Sakura SkyTree is a rare plant that only select expeditioners get to experience. The Sakura SkyTree does not bloom often, but when it does, many spectators claim that setting eyes on a Sakurainbow is life-changing. Almost as life-changing as upgrading all the oft-used character weather cards with a spectacular foil finish!

As we may have mentioned, Japan and its inspirational designers and illustrators are a big influence on the design and art styles of the rest of Asia, and that includes us here in Singapore. In particular, in the game design of Plantopia, we've streamlined a single card choice into an extremely tough and interesting decision every round, something even Hisashi-san or Saashi-san would approve of. どうもありがとうございます! to all our Japanese friends and supporters, especially 宇田川さん for the immaculate Japanese rulebook.

We've come to the end of our Kickstarter journey, but it really is only the beginning. There is no end to the fun times on Plantopia, which are now guaranteed because of ALL OF YOU. We sincerely believe that the game will provide you and your friends with laughter and brain burn in these tough times, and tomorrow we embark on the road to fulfill our promise (today we need to sleep).

The Plantopia Team

Wait, there's more!

For those of you who are still on the Kickstarter high and are on the lookout for really fun games (especially awesome games with solo modes) to back, may we present In Too Deep:

If you enjoy the delicious thinkiness and tough decisions of Daryl Chow designs, this game has it in spades, and more. Co-designed with the inimitable Josh Cappel and illustrated by renowned board game artist Dominik Mayer, In Too Deep by Burnt Island Games is an immersive game experience like no other. You will need to tap into the minds of hardened criminals to gain their skills and execute well-laid plans, making sure that you yourself do not fall into the abyss. The game is an immaculate blend of modern board game mechanics and edge-of-your-seat excitement, and is brought to you by the world-class production team over at Burnt Island Games responsible for gems like Hall of the Mountain King.

If you're looking to follow another fantastic and well-helmed campaign filled with tantalizing stretch goals, In Too Deep is definitely one to back!
