What's that waltzing in the brush?
over 3 years ago – Thu, Sep 10, 2020 at 08:08:19 PM

Hello again plant-lovers!

We're excited to introduce to you the latest species we discovered, the Kangarule Grass, which only grows in hot and humid weather. A large part of our team have some sort of roo-ts to Australia and so we were roo-ting for this card to come out for a long time. We would be there right now if we weren't on Plantopia (and there wasn't a global pandemic)!

An interesting factoid - you will mostly find king Kangaroos in the Kangarule grass because the queen Kangaroos are smart enough to carry measuring tape in their pouches. The Kangarule Grass provides players with a huge leap forward because the moment it is planted, all your trees and cacti grow by one level, including itself. The Kangarule Grass will not be denied!

And speaking of leaps forward...

We're so happy that so many of you could join us on this journey. Potato would be so proud of how long he's come - wait, you don't know Potato's story? Here, let us catch you up:

Potato's Story Part 1

Potato's Story Part 2

Now that you're all up to speed, you know that Potato's story is one of perseverance and yet above all a heartfelt journey to make friends. Just as Life of a Potato is a story about Potato's friendships, we sincerely hope that Plantopia is a game you can enjoy time and time again with your friends, both old and new. And we're really glad to make two thousand friends like you guys along the way.

Thanks once again for being here. Let's bound forth, there's still more to come!

What's that I spy with my London eye?
over 3 years ago – Wed, Sep 09, 2020 at 06:30:44 PM

Good morning/afternoon/night, greenery fans!

After our last discovery, we made our way across a huge pond until we got to dry land, where we came to a lush emerald forest. There were lots of interesting species of plants here, but the one that toad-stood out to us were these shy-looking yet gregarious red, white and blue spotted toadstools that love to peek their heads out from what seems to be really tasty-looking sausage pastries. These guys are so much fun! A fun(gi) fact - though they look poisonous, they aren't. They will get really annoyed if you start eating their sausage pies though, so please don't do that (but if you do, they go surprisingly well with a fresh pint).

Thanks so much to all our friends and family in the UK for coming on the journey with us to Plantopia - despite not having your own shipping tier (yet) you guys have really shown your support for us and for that we will love you always! And speaking about that, we will have a long-awaited announcement for you very soon..

Yesterday, we had lots of fun with our backers at our Tabletopia Party, kindly hosted by our fun yet informative host Seb from AmateurBoardgamer. We know that board games are much better face-to-face, but the internet allows us to bring together folks from Canada, Australia and Singapore, so for that we were very appreciative. Thanks again to all of those who came out to play, and for those who joined us on the livestream! If you weren't able to join us, you can rewatch the session on the How-To-Play section on our Story page.

We are also pleased to report that thanks to help from the kind folks at Tabletopia, you can now play a beta version of Plantopia online! Simply search for Plantopia on Tabletopia (simple enough!) or you can also use the link on our Story page.

Let's keep exploring, there's always so much more to see!

SOLO POTATO + Details of Friday's (SEP 4) LIVE PLAYTHROUGH!
over 3 years ago – Thu, Sep 03, 2020 at 03:05:27 AM

Greetings, Potato Army!

Plantopia was designed for friends and families to journey through together, and its inimitable Weather mechanic that has resulted in endless mind games is testament to that. However, sometimes we just want to be alone and play a calming game by ourselves (or are subject to enforced quarantine). As evidenced by the picture above, Potato knows the feeling!

The solo version of Plantopia plays very differently from the multiplayer version, since there are no fellow gardeners to psych out. Although there are no opponents to keep an eye on, you will need to manage the weather on top of managing your plants, so your risk-management senses still have to be on high alert. We hope that this additional mode makes your forays to Plantopia even more fruitful!

In around 28 hours from now, we will be hosting a PARTY - a live playthropia of Plantopia on Tabletopia with backers that so gracefully demonstrated their pun-worthiness. Seb from AmateurBoardgamer will be doing a live commentary, plus I have heard that there will be music of some sort. Please join us, and bring chips!

Here are the details:

Date: Sept 4th 2020, Friday

Time: 1030pm Singapore time (1030am EST)

Where: Just click on this link: https://tinyurl.com/plantopiaksparty

You will be able to comment on the ongoing game as well as ask all of your broiling questions, so don't miss this golden brown opportunity to meet all your fellow Potatoes and the Plantopia team!

Till then,

Cards, cards and more cards!
over 3 years ago – Tue, Sep 01, 2020 at 07:17:01 PM

Welcome back, plant-enthusiasts!

This Horticultural Update is all about cards, which are one of the most precious resources on planet Plantopia. Cards are used for planting, used for fertilizer, and, as we can see from the plants recently discovered, also a source of Magical Leaves! These plants enrich themselves by guzzling up all your unused cards at the end of the game and converting them into Magical Leaves. The Money Plant loves the feel of crisp unused cards, the Battus sucks them up like its favourite chlorophyll, and the Monte Carlo Tree takes them all the way to the bank. And the best thing is that plants on Plantopia love to share, so imagine if you have two or tree of them planted...

Oh, and if you didn't notice, all the cards around us are now finished with pure linen! I have heard that gamers seem to prefer this. We definitely do. And what's that new weird-shaped plant on the horizon over there? Things are about to get a lot crazier in Plantopia very soon!

The Plantopia Team

While we're here we may as well let you know about other non-plant things we've recently discovered.

We like to keep things neat and tidy here on Plantopia and if you do too, you'll probably love these really useful cables, also designed with the same passion that we do with our games. Clever Things is also a proudly local studio like us, so if you're a supporter of Singaporean products, why not check them out as well on IndieGoGo?

- Simply Roll/Coil, Squeeze and it Bonds together magically (No magnets or cable-ties needed)

The Tree North, strong and free!
over 3 years ago – Tue, Sep 01, 2020 at 05:17:28 PM

Hello again horticultural enthusiasts!

After heading north from our last encounter, we've noticed a species of bright red plant that is extremely friendly and somehow loves nature even more than us. In fact, it's so at peace with nature that we can't even tell if it is a flower or a tree - its bright and red, so it's a flower? In any case, whenever it gets planted in a garden, all the flowers are so delighted that you get to draw 1 card for each flower in your garden, including itself!

We've also noticed that this plant is resilient to cold weather and uses its razor sharp skatems to navigate the harsh winters. Thank you Canada for all of your love and support, and we're hoping that this game brings you and your close ones some warmth and laughter this winter.

Speaking of North American flora and fauna, one of our good friends and partners, Grand Gamers Guild, recently concluded a wildly successful Kickstarter, Endangered: New Species, in which you need to come together as a team to save different species of animals. Just like in Plantopia, appreciation of the diversity of plant and animal life in our world is the key to a brighter future for all, so we encourage you to check out the game when you can!

Before we sign off, we would like to remind you that we're still accepting pun submissions, if you plan to join and haven't done so yet. Simply click on the Origame creator logo to message us to let us know you want to join us - there will be an awesome prize for the winner of the game, so the stakes will be incredibly high.

Don't forget to join us Friday, Sep 4, 1030pm Singapore time for our Tabletopia party. There will be music and games and snacks (for us), so we hope to see you all there!
